The files below contain 108 pages (972 words) which have been designed for multi-purposes: reading sheets, flashcards, or game time, adding an element of fun to the reading process. Children read as they play!
Here are some games that you can play:
- Memory: Each set of words comes with a corresponding matching set marked by syllables, which can be used as flashcard memory tiles. (It is recommended to keep each set on opposite sides of the board to make it easier to find a match.)
- Tic-tac-toe: Leave pages as-is (not cut) and place in sheet protector to use with dry erase markers (or use counter chips). Read each word correctly before marking it with an X or O.
- Big brother (a.k.a “war”) Use cards from different sets with varying syllable counts, and split cards into two equal piles, placed face down. Players turn top card over to read and count syllables. Player with higher syllable count is the “big brother” and keeps opponent’s card. If syllable count matches, call out “twins”, place 3 cards face down and turn over 4th for a re-match.
- Beat the clock: Use as standard reading sheets or flashcards, with an added dimension of reading, timing, and trying to beat your score.
- 7-up: This can be used with the files which are written with 3 words per each letter of the aleph-beis (i.e. a “triplet”). Players each take 7 cards and place face up. Goal is to get as many “triplet sets” as possible. Take turns turning over remaining cards with option to take card (in order to form a set) in exchange for a current card, maintaining 7 cards at all times. When triplet set is “taken home”, replace with new cards.
The Kamatz and Patach files below contain 67 pages in all, with 8 large words on each page, carefully paired for leveled learning. They can be used as reading pages or cut up as flashcards for reading and matching games. We hope to upload similar pages with the remaining nekudos shortly.
